Intimate Apparel
Nominated for KCACTF Region IV: Sound Designer
Imitate Apparel is the first Main stage show I have had the opportunity to sound design. I was originally the assistant designer, but because the lead sound designer (Krystal Kennel) had a double tech week, Krystal gave me full creative license to the design. I kept true to Krystal's design that had already been created, but had sections that I solely designed. Such as George's (played by Jarrell Crowder) monologues in the first act, or the longer transitions that were in the second act. George's monologuing happened in various locations on stage, with each calling for directionality and for the sound design to be the set. I did this by layering different soundscapes and assigning them to a speaker location near him in each different location he stood. As George reads his letters and is hard at work on the Panama canal, the sound had to serve as the set for these scenes. Timing out these cues to coincide with the dialogue was critical. Please enjoy the samples of my work!
