This show comes with most challenges a large, 19 headmic musical, musical brings. The large cast had worked tirelessly, which made my job that much easier. In production meetings, it had been decided that the band would be playing on stage. This created interesting challenges for when it came to fighting feedback. This is a loud rock n’ roll show in a small space - which created even more feedback hurdles. The size of the band also contributed to the issues, having 15 instruments and requiring a 7 mic percussion set-up. We solved these issues through EQ adjustments and better mic placement. The EQ was mostly for the high ends that would cause the metal piping set to ring. We also moved some of Lighting department’s equipment that ended up creating feedback with the drum kit. These issues were resolved through hard work and dedication to our craft from my A2 (Tauheedah “Tate” Abdullah) and my A3s (Abigail Buck and Dalton Urda.) I had a direct line of communication to my A3s via headset. Whenever there was a placement issue, battery outage, etc. I would contact them and direct them on how to fix the issue. Tate and I would be constantly communicating to one another for “more of this” or “less of that.” During this production, I was also able to double mic my leads, a luxury I will probably never have the budget for again, but good experience! This was my first attempt at recording my work, so please enjoy some samples from the show!
